Ant's Pictures: Celebrities From The 20th Annual Media Access Awards

On November 2, 2002, Phil./Ant and his parents went to The 20th Annual Media Access Awards presented by The California Governor's Committee for Employment of Disabled Persons (GCEDP). It was located at the Sheraton Universal Hotel, Universal City, CA. This was Ant's second time to Media Access since he went to the one a few years ago when Miss America of 1995 (Heather Whitestone) was there. Yes, he has a picture with her (not online). Ant decided to go to this year's because he heard George Lucas (Star Wars Overlord) was going to be there. At the same time, he wanted to see old people that he hasn't seen for years and see other celebrities.

The first few parts were to register, socialize, and eat dinner (reception). While I was busy eating, my father told me that Mr. Lucas just came out from his black limousine right by our table. I looked up and freaked out with food in small mouth/mandibles. That's OK, George didn't see the overlord yet in my messy situation. I wanted to go up to him badly to to get a picture taken with him, but I was eating. Argh!

After dinner, it was time to go in and wait for the show to begin. While waiting and looking for SW overlord, a friend told me that he just walked in and sat down (far right of me). I didn't want to wait until after the show since I might miss my chance to get a picture! Then, my pa went up to him to ask if it was OK for a picture taking. He agreed, and my father and I went to his place. I got two pictures taken and told George that I was a big fan of his movies. He said thanks. I also shook his hand asked him how was the third Star Wars movie coming along. He said it was doing well and should be out in two years (hopefully since I don't trust release dates [grin]). Finally, I accomplished my goal. During the show, Catina Band song played when he came up on stage to present an award. Here are the photograph results:

I saw a lot of familiar celebrities during the show: Ray Charles, Carrie Fisher (she was funny and Episode 3 throne song was played when she came up on stage to get her award), Alex Trebek (talking about a blind contestant in his popular Jeopardy game show), Dionne Quan (she did the voice-over for Kimi in Rugrats cartoon series and movies; she is legally blind), etc. I wanted to take more pictures with the celebrities, but I only ended up with Patty Duke (I didn't know who she was, but my father wanted a picture so I got one with them just for kicks). I think all the celebrities went home right after the show since it was going too long (supposed to end at 9:15 PM, but ended at 10:30 PM). Somehow this reminds me of The Academy Awards going too long. ;)

Meeting George Lucas was my goal. ;)
